Brothers Richard and Maurice McDonald moved their drive-in to 14th and E streets in San Bernardino in 1940 and put the family name on it. Eight years later they rebuilt it around a short menu and an assembly-line kitchen, the model for fast food ever since. The original building is gone, but a museum on the site displays decades of memorabilia.
